Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve Day Hiking

Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve is a nice day hiking spot in the Bay Area. It is located south of Los Gatos in South Bay. It offers a lot of trails and great view of Santa Cruz Mountains. 

I went hiking in the flower season. It was 11 miles +/-2500ft. It contains craggy ridges. 

As you can see below pictures, there are so many cute colorful flowers were there. I am grateful that I can hike on such a pretty trail near my place. 

 

The flowers are beautiful. It is no doubt that flowers are one of highlights of this hike. However, the real big highlight of this hike was.....a rattlesnake!

Hikers should be careful for rattlesnakes, because they are venomous. It is called a rattle because of their tail portion which makes rattling sounds. I was hiking on the ridge trail and looking at the view on my right side. I was walking on the right half of the trail. The rattlesnake was in the middle of trail. I was really close to it! I should have more pay attention to both sides. 

 

Awwww! It was a really big one. It might be soaking sun on the warm dirt trail. I took pictures in a safe distance. 

Then it went home. Ooops, I am glad I didn't step on it. 

 

It was fun!

シエラアズールオープンスペースプリザーブ（カタカナで書くと長いなー汗）はカリフォルニア、サンフランシスコベイエリアの南に位置するロスガトス市にある公園だ。

公園は広く非常にたくさんのトレイルがある。サンタクルーズマウンテンを見渡せる、とても良い公園だ。

とある休日にここにハイキングへ出かけた。とある春の日だ。この日はものすごい量の野花を見ることができた。最初の６枚の写真が物語っているようにカラフルそのもの。そしてこれはほんの一部でたくさんの野花が咲き乱れているのを見るのはとても楽しかった。

これらの花もハイライトの一つではあるが、やはり一番の衝撃はラトルスネーク！

日本語だと

ガラガラヘビ。

というか、がらがら蛇＝ラトルスネークというのを初めて知った。英語で身につけた単語は日本語が出てこない！

それはともかく、 ハイキングの終盤にやや広めのトレイルを歩いていた。私はトレイルの右半分を歩いていたのだが、突如ガラガラヘビが真ん中にいることに気づいたのだ！私は右半分を歩いていた右側の眼下に見える山々を見ながら歩いていたのだ。なので、トレイル上には全く注意を払っていなかった！ぎゃー。もしかしたら蛇の上を歩くところだった！この蛇本当にでかい！おそらく温まった土の上で熱を吸収していたのだろう。私と友人が写真を撮っていると、しばらくして草むらの方へ逃げていった。

うわー。こんなにでかいガラガラ蛇を見たのは初めてだった。いい経験だった！
